The third edition of the translation summer course at the University of Salamanca (USAL) will take place from 29 June to 3 July. The course is designed by professors from the Master's Degree in Translation and Intercultural Mediation at USAL, in dialogue with the Institut für Übersetzen und Dolmetschen, Universität Heidelberg.
Drawing on the latest trends in translation studies and related fields, and combining insights from recent research on the evolution of the concept and socio-professional field of translation, the course will address the challenges and opportunities that the development of AI presents for creative and effective translation practice and multilingual specialised communication. The programme will be divided into five four-hour sessions combining plenary presentations by lecturers with round table discussions followed by debate.
The following topics will be explored:
- Quality and creativity in translation and multilingual communication in the age of AI
- New professional profiles in the translation and language services sector
- Translation and specialised multilingual communication in technologised socio-professional fields
- Challenges and opportunities of AI in translation for the publishing industry and digital communication
The course sessions will take place from 29 June to 3 July, in the mornings from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., in the Assembly Hall and Room 4 of the Faculty of Translation and Documentation (USAL), and in hybrid format via videoconference.
The sessions will be streamed by videoconference, allowing participants registered in virtual mode to follow and take part in the live sessions. This course is not designed to be followed on a delayed basis, and recordings of the sessions will not be available.
