The Community Interpreting in Greece project, a research
Greece is at crossroads. People from innumerous countries come together in to Greece either as tourists or permanent residents or illegal immigrants. Foreigners, legal and illegal, are contacting Greek authorities, the health system, police, coast guard, refugee camps without having the necessary knowledge of Greek. The book provides an overview of the project Community Interpreting in Greece (CiGreece). The project deals with the neglected issue of community interpreting in Greece, i.e. interpreting before authorities between non-Greek speakers and public servants. There is no formal training or assessment for individuals functioning as community interpreters in Greece; in the majority of the cases where a trained interpreter would be needed, authorities either go ahead without or use untrained individuals at hand declaring to be speakers of the language in question. It has been the objective of the proposed project a) to map, for the first time, the situation in Greece concerning the provision of community interpreting services, b) to highlight the shortcomings in the provision of interpreting services in delicate environments such as the authorities, refugee camps, hospitals, educational settings and police in Greece and c) to increase awareness and to provide the stakeholders with the necessary information to take the measures that will improve the situation in Greece.
The research leading to these results has received funding from the [EEA] Mechanism 2009-2014 under Project Contract n° 3681.

Global Insights into Public Service Interpreting
This edited volume sets out to explore interdisciplinarity issues and strategies in Public Service Interpreting (PSI), focusing on theoretical issues, global practices, and education and training. Unlike other types of interpreting, PSI touches on the most private spheres of human life, making it all the more imperative for the service to move towards professionalization and for ad hoc training methods to be developed within higher institutions of education. PSI is a fast-developing area which will assume an increasingly important role in the spectrum of the language professions in the future.
An international, dynamic, and interdisciplinary exploration of matters related to PSI in various cultural contexts and different language combinations will provide valuable insights for anyone who wishes to have a better understanding when working as communities of practice. For this purpose, the Editors have collected contributions focusing on training, ethical issues, professional deontology, the role and responsibilities of interpreters, management and policy, as well as problems and strategies in different countries and regions.
This collection will be a valuable reference for any student or academic working in interpreting, particularly those focusing on Public Service Interpreting anywhere in the world.
Interpretare da e verso l'italiano. Didattica e innovazione per la formazione dell'interprete.
Ed. by Mariachiara Russo, Bononia University Press, Bologna, 2021, ISBN 9788869239878, ISBN online 9788869239885 This book brings together the research and teaching experience of the trainers of the Department of Interpreting and Translation of the University of Bologna, Forlì Campus: teaching of interpreting from and into Italian in monologic contexts, such as conferences, and in dialogic contexts, such as public services. It also examines language-independent topics that touch on emerging areas of interpreting, such as new technologies and computer-assisted interpreting tools, the use of interpreting corpora, software for the teaching and practice of remote interpreting, theatrical training in interpreter education, interpreting for asylum seekers and minors. It also touches on areas already explored in interpreting studies but revisited here, such as the role of the interpreter, mother tongue, quality, the communicative-interactional dimension of interpreting, court interpreting and wiretapping. The book is addressed to students, teachers and researchers in the field of interpreting, but also to those who deal with interculturality and interlingual communication.
