When an enthusiastic group of young participants selected among Member States public servants meets our highly motivated team, the results are tangible! We had a fascinating discussion on improving public speaking at multilingual meetings with and without interpretation, sound quality in the case of hybrid meetings and communication between EU institutions with the European citizens. The participants enjoyed the chance to become interpreters for a few minutes!

On Friday 20/09, DG HR organised a meeting between the cabinets and DGs that offer different kinds of training. Paula Ovaska-Romano, Head of SCIC B-3, made a very good presentation about the training offer from SCIC on multilingual communication.

Just to give you an overall idea. Currently we are offering three types of “products” in our out reach activities: • Presentations, they last between 30 and 45 minutes. Presentations are based on Power Point and, sometimes, some videos are also used. • Seminars, they last between one hour and half day (we can add or subtract content depending on the time available). Seminars are based on a simulation in which we put participants in the booths and we deliver a bad/good speech so that they can experience the difference. Seminars and presentations are very similar as to the messages they convey. The seminar is more entertaining for participants because of the novelty of being in the booth and having a first-hand experience on interpreting. But it also requires more time and the right facilities which are not easy to have outside the Commission premises in Brussels. • Video training is a different product in the sense that it is much more specific and individually focussed. Here we film participants delivering a speech, presentation, etc. and we try to identify possible weaknesses. Then we propose solutions that we validate on-the-spot. Video training can be offered for small groups (4/6 persons) in half day or individually (45 minutes). Any feedback, suggestions or ideas are more than welcome 
