Interpretation for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
Job description
As the war continues, new urgent humanitarian needs are created every day, alongside protracted ones and peoples' and communities' efforts to recover and rebuild their lives in war-torn communities. Among the IDPs and refugees from Ukraine, the majority express a hope and desire to return to their homes as soon as the security situation allows. The protection needs of the population thus need to be analyzed and addressed both from a humanitarian as well as from an early recovery and durable solutions perspective, with UNHCR playing a leading role in this work.
The Interpreter Assistant will be supporting Protection Cluster (PC) with interpretation and is expected to provide interpretation assistance. Specific emphasis will be placed on conducting simultaneous interpretation during the meetings (online/offline), consecutive interpretation, and occasionally chuchotage.
The Interpreter Assistant will also support the Protection Cluster team, when needed, with written translation of Cluster documents, including translation of publications, training materials, meeting minutes, etc. The Interpreter is expected to join Field missions, sometimes on an ad hoc basis, to support interpretation at the Field level, including during visiting delegations, meetings with the authorities, and field visits facilitated by the Protection Cluster.
