In this talk, Li Li, Lecturer in Interpreting and Translation Studies at the University of Stirling, will explore:
- Women’s experiences of interpreting-assisted maternity care: constraints, compromises, and consequences
- How maternity care providers understand and use interpreting services in maternity care
- How interpreting modality decisions are made and what interpreters need to anticipate
- Working effectively with care providers in video-mediated interpreting (VMI) maternity encounters
- Managing interaction, visibility, and responsibility in VMI: implications for professional judgement in high-stakes maternity contexts
- Discussion and practice-oriented reflections
