Artificial intelligence for language assessment

An in-person event organised by UCL Institute of Education.

Event description

Examining the role of AI in language assessment as a case study of the broader opportunities and challenges AI presents for education and society.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming both scientific inquiry and its societal applications, reshaping how knowledge is generated, evaluated, and used.

In this presentation, Alina von Davier, Chief of Assessment at Duolingo and Founder and CEO of EdAstra Tech, will examine the role of AI in language assessment as a case study of the broader opportunities and challenges AI presents for education and society.

She will also discuss how advances in machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI enable more adaptive, interactive, scalable, and accessible measurement of complex language skills.
