Women, Peace and Security Interpreter/Translator (French)

Translate and edit gender products ensuring accuracy for UNDP.

Job description

To meet tight timelines around the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Open Debate and year-end deliverables, UNDP seeks 1 national UN Community Volunteer to translate and edit priority gender products (EN→FR, occasionally FR→EN), ensuring accuracy, consistency with UNDP terminology, and a clear, natural French style suitable for publication.

Under the supervision of the Gender & Crisis Team (Crisis Bureau), and in close coordination with Communications (BERA) and relevant technical leads, the national UN Community Volunteer will:

- Translate & edit priority materials (primarily EN→FR and FR->EN): policy briefs, talking points, executive summaries, blog posts, web copy, slide text, figure/box/table captions, social media copy, and short toolkit excerpts.

- Proofread and quality-assure final French versions for grammar, readability, and tonal alignment (publication-ready).

- Apply UNDP terminology and style (Gender Equality Strategy, WPS, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), climate-peace, crisis/early recovery vocabulary); maintain a shared mini-glossary and ensure consistency across products.

- Respect original formatting (Word/PowerPoint/Excel where applicable) and ensure all embedded text (figures/tables/alt-text/captions/credits) is covered.

- Perform light localization (e.g., French audience nuances) while preserving meaning and institutional voice. - Coordinate efficiently via shared channels (Track Changes, versioning, naming conventions); respond to inline comments and queries.

- Safeguard confidentiality of all materials.
