Call for Papers
Event description
In October 2026, the Institute of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Czechia, will organize an international conference marking the centenary of the birth of Jiří Levý.
They are delighted to announce that keynote speakers will be Professors Christiane Nord (Professor Emeritus), Nike Pokorn (University of Ljubljana) and Lieven D’hulst (KU Leuven).
Levý is an important figure of Czech linguistics, literary studies, and other research fields. He also helped establish translation theory as a distinct discipline, and his publications are considered to have pioneered numerous aspects of today’s international Translation Studies, including the use of statistical methods and corpora in empirical TS.
Even though the conference title directly references Levý’s most prominent publication (The Art of Translation), the event’s overall concept is profoundly interdisciplinary. Part of the programme is a Translating Europe Workshop involving translator-focused events. Please find attached the invite to this conference.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts has been extended to 30 April.
