Audiovisual translation

Audiovisual translation involves translating audiovisual media content from one language or format to another by means of different translation practices. Translating this type of material involves working with sound and images.

Different types of audiovisual translation practices exist, delivered either live or offline:

 

  • (interlingual) subtitling

  • dubbing 

  • voice-over

  • narration 

  • media interpreting 

  • closed captioning (CC) and subtitling for people who are deaf or hard of hearing (SDH)

  • sign language interpreting

  • audio subtitling for people who are blind or visually impaired

  • audio description for people who are blind or visually impaired.
