Are you interested in new career paths in the language sector? Join us on Tuesday 16 June for a KCTI Careers Corner - Newcomers edition from 15:00 to 16:00 on Zoom. Registration is not required for this event.
A varied panel of language industry newcomers, from project managers and audiovisual translators to interpreters and AI specialists, will each present a fresh look at the career paths available to language professionals today and will provide insight into their personal journey to their current job.
Panellists
Manjinder Thind - Language Specialist Manjinder holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistic Mediation and a Master’s degree in Specialised Translation. She was a trainee in DGT’s AI-based Services Unit where she worked on prompting, event organisation and moderation, and communication. She currently works as a Language Specialist in the technical team of an AI-based QA tool. She is one of the winners of this year's EMT Present your thesis in 3 minutes contest.
Ismini Karantzi – Researcher, Translator Ismini is a candidate postdoctoral researcher and Academic Scholar at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) of the Ionian University, Greece, where she teaches Audiovisual Translation, Technical Translation and Humour in Translation. She began her professional career in 2015 and has been running her own business since 2017, specialising in translation, editing and subtitling. In addition, she has worked as a Translation Project Manager in the Life Sciences sector and has taught Braille at the Regional Association of the Blind of Western Greece.
Lucia Galiero – Linguist - Blue Book Trainee at DGT in the Innovation Sector. Lucia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistic Mediation and a Master’s degree in Translation and Technology. She is a Blue Book Trainee at DGT in the Innovation Sector. During her traineeship at the Commission, she has been testing and improving AI outputs, as well as supporting the development of prototypes. Before coming to the EC, she worked in prompt engineering and developed tools for AI evaluation in multilingual settings and language data reuse.
Marit Võsaste – Interpreter at DG SCIC Marit Võsaste is a conference interpreter working with Estonian, English, and Spanish. She has a background in aviation, environmental management, financial technology and translation, which gave her a broad perspective that helped her on her path to interpreting. She started on the private market in 2018, and after passing the inter-institutional test in 2023, began working as a freelance interpreter for the EU institutions. Since January 2025, she has been a Staff Interpreter at the European Commission.
