August a dull month? Not if you ask this enthusiastic and motivated group of Danish staff interpreters and candidates for the accreditation test!
During the last two weeks, the interpretation services of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Court of Justice of the European Union have jointly being running the first part of the PASS¹ programme, a support initiative to help conference interpreter graduates with Danish as their A-language to prepare for the EU accreditation test for freelance interpreters. The three EU institutions set up this programme because all three interpretation services need to expand their pool of Danish interpreters.
So, what has been happening on the premises of the European Parliament and European Commission in Brussels over these two weeks?
Under the experienced guidance of staff interpreters from all three institutions and an external stress management coach, the participants have gone through an intensive and varied programme of targeted exercises and activities, dedicated to preparation for the simultaneous part of the accreditation test. The programme had been carefully put together in order to provide a final polishing before the test.
One additional week is scheduled to take place in September and will be dedicated to targeted preparation for the consecutive exam.
